Mountainfreak Magazine   •   a funky, creative journal of alternative mountain culture

From 1998 to Spring 2000 I helped start up Mountainfreak Magazine. As Art Director, I designed and layed out over 700 print pages, managing the entire creative development and production processes, including doing all of the original graphic design, prepress work, and overseeing the color correction for all of the photos. At the same time, I created and administered the Mountainfreak website single-handedly.

Multimedia CD-Rom

Outward Bound decided an interactive, multimedia presentation would have more punch than a printed brochure folder. Additionally, the CD cost less to manufacture and mail and the program files (created in Flash) could also be posted on their web site. We created a CD-rom for their Tall Ship semester programs to be sent to college students, and a CD-rom for their Outward Bound Pro devision to be sent to corporate leaders across the country.

After being asked, "Why Telluride?" repeatedly, I created an intro for their website that demonstrated a taste of Flash technology while being informative, interesting and attractive.

Logo Design

Jack Studios needed a logo that said "slick," "open and airy," and "fun" at the same time. They also needed business cards and a marketing piece. They wanted an image of the studio with the pieces. I felt the room sold itself, and the photo, with massive retouching and digital imaging, became part of their image.
 

 

Marketing: creative concept design

 

Planters' marketing company had two potential themes for their NASCAR tour circuit promotional tour. They needed artwork to go with it for presentation to the nutty company. I came up with over 20 logos for the two themes, then narrowed them down to a final four with the client, then to a final one for each theme. All this was done over one long weekend, thanks to on-line proofing.

KOTO Community radio is one of the only non-commercial/non-underwriten stations in the nation. They are hard to say no to when they need graphic design for posters, plastic beer mugs, and paraphernalia.The theme of Fall Fundraising '98 was "KOTO Kare" and featured health practitioners to head fundraising.
